Conclusions of the Examination in Public for the SW Regional Strategy

The EiP Panel Report, published in January 2008, discussed various transport proposals or projects by name, especially railway improvements, but nowhere so much as even mentioned any A350 Westbury Bypass plan.

Freight transport priorities summarised in the SW Region EiP Panel Report were public transport investment, roads investment particularly where it benefits public transport operations (NB), motorway and trunk road network investment, inter-regional rail network investment, motorway and trunk road demand management.

A bypass of the non-trunk non-inter-regional A350, which would not connect with Westbury railway station, did not at all relate to the present-day common-sense strategy.   This was all obvious from some while ago.

The Government review of the SW RSS EiP Panel Report, published in July 2008, went further.  There is now further support for sustainable public transport plans as part of the UK strategy for tackling climate change. Wiltshire County Council's Westbury Bypass scheme would have crazily increased carbon (CO2) emissions.

The A350 is absent from further consideration in the Regional Strategy as a regionally significant route.

With planning permission also refused, there is now no A350 Westbury Bypass scheme.
